First hybrid Senior Officials Meeting

The Coalition of Trade Ministers hosted its first Senior Officials Meeting on Friday 20 October.


A diversity of Coalition Ministers were represented at the meeting, which included a lively discussion and exchange of ideas on concrete next steps to advance work on actions that the Coalition’s can put forward based on their Launch Statement principles and priorities, and to foster Ministerial-level engagement on trade, climate and sustainable development nexus. They shared views on possible collaborative actions that Ministers could take to show that trade cooperation can have a contribution to global climate agenda and advance progress on enhanced and inclusive cooperation on the nexus of trade, climate and sustainable development.


The Coalition co-leads -- Kenya, Ecuador, New Zealand and European Union -- provided an update on preparations for the Coalition’s work and engagement in the coming months. This included active and diverse presence of the Coalition at the COP28 and the prospect of a thematic roundtable on the nexus of trade, finance and climate in the margins of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos. The members also discussed the preparations for the Coalition’s second Annual Ministerial meeting that will take place in the margins of 13th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13).
